UPDATE 4:32PM MASSIVE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS UNDERWAY IN HONDURAS

The Honduran president, Manuel Zelaya, elected in November 2005, has been kidnapped, beaten and forced into exile in Costa Rica. A fake letter of resignation, with his forged signature (see blog entry below), was used by Honduras' opposition majority Congress to justify the president's ouster. Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas was brutally beaten and kidnapped by military forces in her residence just before noon and taken into custody. She has not been seen since.

In complete violation of diplomatic law, the ambassadors of Venezuela and Cuba were both beaten and kidnapped for a short period by Honduran soldiers, under orders of the coup leaders. They have both been released and have taken refuge again in their respective embassies.

A non-binding vote, scheduled for today, on a possible future constitutional assembly, was impeded by the coup leaders, violating the Honduran people's right to vote and participate in their political processes.

Nations around the world, including the United Nations, Organization of American States, Latin American countries and even the United States have condemned the events in Honduras. Only the Obama Administration has yet to clarify whether they will recognize the illegal coup government led by the president of Honduras' congress, Micheletti.

Eva,

Have you seen this:

http://deportes.eluniversal.com/2009/06/28/int_ava_hillary-clinton-cond_28A2428803.shtml

Hugo Llorens, the U.S. ambassador to Honduras is quoted as saying that the U.S. only recognizes Zelaya...are looking to hear it directly from Clinton? Or should we not trust the source? Thanks for keeping us updated.

Thanks, but Clinton's statement did not say that exactly...This is the exact statement issued by the State Department: "The action taken against Honduran President Mel Zelaya violates the precepts of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and thus should be condemned by all. We call on all parties in Honduras to respect the constitutional order and the rule of law, to reaffirm their democratic vocation, and to commit themselves to resolve political disputes peacefully and through dialogue. Honduras must embrace the very principles of democracy we reaffirmed at the OAS meeting it hosted less than one month ago."

As you can see, the word "coup" is not mentioned and no clear statement indicating the US won't recognize the coup government is included...

Hello I'm Eva from Venezuela but i live in Canada, and i haven't seen any news about Hondura here, i just can't believe how the capitalism (news company) hide the true to the people. Well, i just want to thank you for your work. I'm in a society called (social justice)in my college and we always talk about venezuela as an example to follow. Our main point is to show the true that we will never hear on the news. We have received threats from the president of the associative group of college, for our way of talking, but we are not going to shut up, because that's the mission of capitalism, maintain ignorant the people. I admire you greatly, until victory always.

Why are you surprised. Americans live in socio-economic-political darkness, resulting from a lack of awareness, lack of education, lack of health insurance.
As an american, I am ashamed of this gutless, ignorant, right wing extremist society and culture.
